How To Contact Celebrities Using MySpace

By Jordan McAuley

According to a recent Nielsen/NetRatings survey, 46 million people visited MySpace in July 2006, each spending an average of two hours and 15 minutes on the site. So what makes MySpace so popular? First it lets users create their own free profile, including photos, videos, and music. Users can also completely customize the layout, colors, and text of their profiles including blogs, event announcements, bulletin posts, and more.

Extremely popular with teens and young adults, MySpace is part of a growing new trend on the Internet of “social networking” sites. Although there are multiple social networking sites online including Friendster, Facebook, and Xanga. MySpace is the most popular. It also has the most celebrities as real members. MySpace is so popular, in fact, that News Corp. bought it for $580 million.

Celebrities know that one of the benefits of being on MySpace is that when they make a post to their MySpace blog talking about something they're working on or announce an event such as a live appearance or autograph signing, their messages will be viewed directly by their fans without having to rely on email lists, spend a lot of money on advertising, etc. that may or may not get their message out in time.

To being contacting celebrities using MySpace, first set up your profile. Then you invite your friends to link their profiles to yours -- and that’s when the fun begins! Most of the people linking to you and to your friends will have the same interests, live in the same town, etc. So it's a great way to keep in touch with old friends and also make new ones, which is why MySpace is called a "social networking" site. Think of it like six degrees of separation (but in actuality it's more like three degrees online!).

Although MySpace is currently used mostly by teens, more young adults and adults are signing up every day (including celebrities). So despite what you may have heard about old men setting up profiles on MySpace to lure young children, most people use it to keep in touch with other people like themselves and to make new friends. You can search for peope by zip code, city, high school, college, networking category (marketing, publishing, etc.), and more. This lets you find other people you already know or would like to meet, because they share either the same background or the same interests, career, or hobbies you do.

MySpace allows its users to share intimate details about their life (sometimes a little too intimate!) that you would perhaps never learn without it since most people put on airs in person. As society becomes more and more socially cut off with technological advances like caller id, email, and text messages, people are now looking for more and more ways to connect on a personal level while still utilizing "cool" technology. MySpace lets them do just that, and celebrities are no exception. They can now communicate with their fans without having to give out their personal information. Now when they meet their fans they can say "look me up on MySpace and send me a message!"

Larger-than-life celebrities use MySpace to promote themselves. Madonna, for instance, posts news about her latest album releases, song downloads, screen savers, and more on her profile. Recently it linked to MTV.com so fans could vote for her in the five MTV Video Music Awards categories she was nominated for. Celebrities like Madonna make no qualms about using MySpace as a savvy marketing and promotional tool. As of this article she had 71,752 friends linked to her profile and 19,214 comments! And that doesn't even count the hundreds if not thousands of messages and new friend requests she probably receives on a daily basis.

However, many celebrities actually set up their profiles themselves, read their messages, and respond to fans directly. Janice Dickinson, the former "love her or hate her" judge on "America's Next Top Model" has her own profile. She used it to announce casting calls for her reality show "The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency" on Oxygen, and lists Jose Canseco as one of her top friends. Adult star Jenna Jameson uses her profile to blog about her life and show off photos of herself with stars like Paris Hilton. And yes, Paris has her own profile too (with sister Nikki Hilton as one of her friends, of course!).

To set up your own MySpace profile, visit http://www.myspace.com and click on Sign Up in the top right-hand corner. From there, fill out the information it asks for and follow the rest of the instructions. After you've set up your profile, you can download profile templates from sites like MyGen. Do a search on Google for “myspace profile templates” to find other similar sites.

After you've set up your own MySpace profile, you can send private messages to celebrities you find after you add them as friends. Since most celebrities understand that when you add them as friends to your profile they may gain additional fans among your friends as well, they'll usually approve your friend request even though they don't know you. You can also post a comment on their page that includes your picture. In fact, a great way to request a free autographed photo from the star is to send he or she a message. Simply ask for an autographed photo, and be sure to include your name and address!

Celebrities Helping to End Global Warming

By Laxmi Keshav

Global warming, certainly is one of the hotly debated issues across the world. You will find that it is a topic of discussion and debate for many current affairs programmes on various electronic mediums of communication like television, radio, and internet blogs and sites. It is no surprise given the involvement of celebrities representing various fields. Records suggest that lately, many celebrities have taken a open position on the issue of globalisation which affects our mother earth.

Foremost among these is the award winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio who has turned an environmentalist. He is using his celebrity status to bring many environmental issues in general and global warming in particular, into focus and make them topic of debates. HE has made numerous appearances at global warning related events. He has even a created his own documentary titled 11th Hour. Most certainly Leonardo DiCaprio has managed to leverage his celebrity status to bring much needed attention to global warming, as well as other environmental issues.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is another well-known actor turned political figure, who has contributed to the cause of enlightenment about the dangers of global warming. He is known as a rather outspoken person. He has put his words into action. As the Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger has passed laws that reduce the greenhouse gasses emitted in the state of California and much more.

Last but not the least, former vice president of U.S.A., Mr. Al Gore is well known for his fight against global warming. Al Gore is recognised as one of the first few political personalities who have contributed to the cause of global warming. In fact, he has done more than that. He has produced an award winning documentary, titled "An Inconvenient Truth", which has brought much needed attention to this important issue ultimately help him win Nobel price jointly.

Michael Crichton, a well-known author is one of the many celebrities, who have not only shown their support for the environment, but also have spoken out against global warming. In the year 2002, he wrote a book that basically claimed global warming is nothing but a conspiracy theory. In this book, he claimed that many environmentalists are using global warming as a ploy to receive more money for their organizations. His book was met with a mixture of support and criticism.

These celebrities have leveraged their celebrity status to bring much attention to the extremely important topic of global warming. These people have used various methods like starting environmental groups, making documentaries and producing television programs to bring global warming into prime focus.

There is a widespread belief that this association of celebrities and global warming is targeted towards gaining even more publicity. But the fact remains that it has only helped the cause of global warming. There is no denying the fact that Al Gore's documentary received more success than other documentaries because of his public stature. Such efforts have endured that the serious issue of global warming has gained far wider reach and publicity.

What Do Celebrities Look for in a House?

By Julia Vakulenko

Whether it is a Hollywood actor or actress, a famed athlete, or a song diva, there is one thing they all share alike: the comfort of what people call a "celebrity home". And if there is one thing you notice that all celebrity homes have in common, is that it is built for entertaining.

Lest it be forgotten, celebrities choose to live in a house that can entertain not only family and friends, but colleagues, the media, and whoever they please as well. Celebrities like to purchase or build a home that can shine as brightly as they do. The house that they have to live in has to stand as much in the limelight with or without them inside it. What with the furious camera flashes of the paparazzi and a chance for the home to be showcased in television or magazines, the house has to be built with utmost precision, attention to detail, and style.

As good as a celebrity home looks, it cannot be called completely as such unless it's standing on a great piece of land. Most celebrities choose to build their homes in the posh Beverly Hills, the sun and beach of Maui, or the excitement and adventure of exotic places. Only the best will do for these famous people. They either choose a land that is flocked with other great celebrities, or a land known for its pristine beauty and enriched with culture and history.

The reasons why celebrities build or purchase a house plays a great influence to what the house is going to be like and where it is to be located. The most common reason for celebrities to build their homes is to give them a chance to get away from the busy schedule that often comes with the package of being a famous person. Their house has to be able to entertain their family and the guests they plan to spend their weekend or holiday with.

Space is an important aspect for celebrities to include in their home. The house has to be spacious and yet still have a good stretch of land for them to roam about. The weather also plays a significant part in choosing a celebrity home. A place where there is sun to perfect their tan and a cool breeze to enjoy lounging around for is sure to entice any celebrity.

As they are accustomed to service, the community they choose to live in should have great resources available and accessible for them. Great shops, great spas, great restaurants, and activity areas are all they would need to be lured into living in that community.

Whether it is a vacation home or a permanent residence, all celebrity homes should have privacy. Celebrities prefer homes that provide them the necessary privacy to enjoy their life away from the glaring eyes of the paparazzi.

Some great sports celebrities are already living in a place that offers them all that and more, that is in Tampa Bay, Florida. Tampa Bay offers celebrities great real estate to choose from fit for entertaining even the finest kings. With great hot spots and the sun and breeze to enjoy, celebrities are offered the best of every world.

Christina Aguilera And Other Celebrities?

By Jhaye Fabros

Once again, it was proven that a celebrity or a famous personality can move certain thing beyond unreasonable doubt. Celebrities and famous personalities alike have the same power in making a change at any environment they will perform.

Christina Aguilera performance on her previous concert in Manila was a successful one because she was attended by different levels of persons of with different age bracket. Though she was pregnant, she performed well on her concert singing and dancing enough with energy and she was applauded by the different audience in return.

Christina Aguilera is one of the quality singers in the singing and movie industry. In fact, one of her songs was used in a prestigious movie as theme song. Not all of the famous singers of the world had the chance that their song is to be used as a theme song in a movie. Miss Aguilera is not only lucky for that, but also because of the quality of songs she sings.

A pregnant woman performing on stage with singing and dancing moves is not an easy task. This needs a determination and Christina is brave enough to perform on stage with that because not all who with the same status of her will do such a thing.

If you notice, most of the famous personalities and celebrities are gaining double as they perform. They become the darling of the crowd and get paid with a huge amount for the performance. This is killing two birds with one stone. No wonder there are reality based programs searching for future celebrities, the program is attended by voluminous influx of applicants. Though everyone knows that only few will pass the audition process, a considerable number of young people are still willing to try their luck.

Of course everybody wants to be known worldwide and as a celebrity, you are one step away from being famous. Anyway being famous also accompany a great responsibility, a quote form Spiderman the Movie. Being a celebrity is also hard because every single and small event that would be connected to you, whether it is good or bad the world will surely know. Thanks to newspapers and broadcasting media for doing it. As a celebrity or famous personality, the world will praise you if you did something worthwhile, but you will be cursed if you did something wrong.

Anyways, you don’t have to be famous and to be known worldwide. As long as you are true to yourself, you have lots friends, you have money to pay your bills and a bit of savings in the bank and you are not doing something wrong with your neighbors is more than enough. Be happy, contentment is the key.

I am fond of collecting beautiful faces and sexy pictures on the net. I spend time online about Celebrities that attracts my attention. View some of my Celebrity Collection

Celebrities Defined - A Brief Overview of Entertainment PR

By Mona L. Loring

Being a "celebrity" is quite different from working as an actor or a musician... you can do your job and even take in your handsome paycheck, but at the end of the day-you're only regarded as "star" when people know who you are.

So what makes you stand out above the rest? And let us note that when we are talking about the entertainment industry so "the rest" is a pretty large number. You can argue as much as you want, however, in the end-- a publicist is what makes you officially stand out. A high-caliber publicist introduces (or re-introduces) you to the public. Without the public consistently caring about you, it is near impossible to succeed as a person in the entertainment industry with celebrity status.

You are not a celebrity unless the public wants to know more about you and what you are currently doing-- and the media is the integral passageway to your desired audience.

Now it is important to keep in mind that for most talent, a publicist can be unnecessary. In fact, if a PR firm is legitimate, they will turn down prospective clients seeking their services unless that talent has a solid reason for needing the exposure. Day in and day out, publicists are contacted with inquiries from people who assume the key to instant stardom is a publicist. Sure, we do help you get there but you have to crawl before you walk. You can't just assume we can get you featured in Vanity Fair just because you do the job that you do (no matter how well you do it). You have to have something going for you that will set you apart from everyone doing the very same job as you. Why are you original? What makes you the next big thing? Why should the world care? Any logical publicist would tell you that they cannot generate press, create appearance (red carpet) requests, or fuel public interest if the talent has nothing of consequence to report.

Most people who are at the right stage for a publicist are on the cusp breaking through to the next level in their career. That can be anything as minor as landing a small role on a hit television show to releasing an album and touring with someone who is getting a ton of what we call-"buzz."

Now on the flip side, even though some publicists say that you have to ripen your craft prior to seeking PR representation, it is not necessarily true. If that were the case, reality stars would never acquire fame for what they do-- being themselves. They may not have much experience in the public eye, but they do have something... Reality stars have a TV show behind them which has created the buzz they need for their publicity efforts to take effect.

Coming back to the focal issue at hand-- being the term "celebrity" and all its glory. Talent and their reps need to understand exactly why it is NOT a good idea to pass on publicity. As discussed, there are times to wait and ripen yet times to seize the moment as well. You need to assess every aspect of your career.

There are a number of actors who choose to refuse PR services assuming their management can just "field the requests" and that is all they need.

Not true.

Unless you are someone like Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt (who trust me, need a publicist for other reasons!) you will seldom be approached by media. Even if you're promoting a hot new movie, there are only a handful of media outlets that will cover your project and even then-they won't necessarily come to you for the interview. There are many people involved in a project who can comment on the experience: directors, supporting actors, producers, etc. If you want to make sure that you are noted for your achievement, you need a publicist to assist you. Taking that a step further, not only will your publicist assist you but they will make sure to do so in a way that stands in line with branding you as the celebrity you want to be. This branding comes into play with every detail of your career. Which events you attend and how often, what you wear in a photo shoot, what you decide to say about an experience, and much more are all the actions you take which come together to brand you as a celebrity.

To end, let's take the idea further. Becoming a celebrity is different than just getting famous. The word famous is not as everlasting as the term celebrity. Sure, by definition they both mean the same concept but in theory-a celebrity should be timeless. Remaining a celebrity is an on-going job and the word doesn't come lightly. You need a team built around you to help you stay that way.

Mona Loring, president of MLC PR brings forth solid experience in public relations, magazine writing, copywriting, marketing, and business development. Holding powerful positions such as public relations director, copywriter, entrepreneur and leader of media relations for a number of charity organizations, Loring offers original PR approaches and resourceful insight.

Celebrities - Most Popular Broadway Stars

By Michael Russell

Broadway is unique. In most venues, TV, movies, radio, etc., we never really get to see our favorite celebrities up close and personal. But Broadway is different. Depending on how much money you dished out for tickets, you may end up just a few feet away from your favorite Broadway star. This is something that can't be equaled by any other medium of entertainment, excluding of course sports events. But to get a courtside seat to a Knicks game is going to cost you thousands of dollars. Few real people can afford that.

In the meantime, Broadway has certainly given us our share of popular stars. One needs to look no farther than Julie Andrews who originated the role of Eliza Doolittle in "My Fair Lady." Many people felt it was strange that she wasn't picked to do the movie version, especially since Audrey Hepburn couldn't even sing and had to have her vocals dubbed in. Certainly one of the strangest casting jobs in all of movie history.

If you're looking for a more recent example, there is always Michael Crawford who originated the role of "The Phantom Of The Opera" in the early 80s. Crawford's portrayal was so incredible that he was actually named a living legend because of it. Nobody has since sung "Music Of The Night" like Crawford, a song that has been literally linked with him for all eternity.

If you need an even more recent example of two people who will forever be linked with a show, you need look no farther than Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel who portrayed the good witch and the wicked witch respectively in the Broadway production of "Wicked." When it came time to hand out the Tony Awards for that year it was literally a toss up as to who was going to win between the two of them. Menzel ultimately ended up winning. It was said that these two were so perfect for their roles that there may never be anyone who comes close to pulling off a performance as great as the ones these two gave us.

And then of course there are the Broadway stars that transcend Broadway and grace just about every corner of stage and screen. There is no better example of this than Hugh Jackman who was simply brilliant in "The Boy From Oz" and "Oklahoma." Many of us also know him as Wolverine in the "X-Men" series of movies. Jackman is probably one of the most popular performers on stage today.

The list, of course goes on and on. There's currently Sara Ramirez and Christopher Sieber of "Spamalot," a Monty Python goof that is probably one of the funniest plays to come out in a very long time that mixes comedy with some of the best, and most hysterical, music around. Just one listen to "The Song That Goes Like This" is all you need to realize that Ramirez and Sieber are pure comic and musical geniuses.

And just think of it. These are people who you can actually see live.

It doesn't get any better than that.

Our Era of Celebrities and Sex

By Lauren Wise

Paris Hilton, Fred Durst, Rob Lowe, Colin Farrell, Tonya Harding, Kid Rock, Bam Margera, Tommy Lee and Pam Anderson.

These celebrities have one thing in common: at least half of America has viewed graphic content from the only private part of their lives. This celebrity sex tape era stems from our fascination with reality TV and obsession with fame and sex, topped off by this technological revolution where everyone has a camcorder and computer with video. Hardcore porn films have existed since the teens, but one of the earliest star pornos to surface was a nameless film that depicts what appears to be a young Marilyn Monroe, shot around 1948. Six decades later, the latest celebrity sex tape features Colin Farrell and a former Playboy Playmate, and contains a mere 14 minutes of action, marked by dialogue such as: "Where's the zoom on this?"

But Farrell’s career probably won’t falter, and could even benefit in what has developed to be another media outlet celebrities can now work in. Some critics feel that celebrities may even be in on the sex tape “leaks”. It makes them more interesting and promotes their name. Although our obsessive celebrity culture has been rising since the 1990’s, this public desire to see their sex tapes is a new development. Why? Partially because in our culture, the media divulges so much personal information about celebrities that people feel they know them on an intimate level.

After Paris Hilton’s sex tape surfaced, her superficial resume bulked up, and her freaking dog even wrote a book! In 2005, Yahoo's seventh most-searched term in the world was “Paris Hilton”. Her tape is only a well-known example in the celebrity pornography trade, which increases dramatically with each innovation in motion picture technology.

In the past, Hollywood studios worked hard to curb inappropriate behavior. Celebrities under contract had to sign morals clauses, but now celebrities are constantly over boundaries of sexual explicitness that is almost encouraged. Consider 2001’s Monster’s Ball, with an intense and almost too-long sex scene between Billy Bob Thorton and Halle Berry. The odd thing is, although people eagerly delve into media’s warped values, what we expect from ourselves or our politicians are radically different.

As a U.S. Senator your career would be ruined if your sex tape was leaked. A regular citizen such as me or you would be looked down upon. For example: A former Taiwanese Council woman was involved in sex scandal with her husband. She was described as disgraceful and forced from office. On the other hand, icon Paula Abdul had a sexual affair with a contestant on “American Idol” but is still a judge even after recordings and phone records displayed her relationship with the contestant…but the network claimed there was no proof.

What do these instances say about our society and our values? Why does our culture reward celebrities with publicity for their lewd acts?

Lauren Wise is a junior studying journalism at Arizona State University. She is editor of the college newspaper, a column writer for the independent paper Cellar Door created by students, the community college's campus paper, and does freelance work over the internet and for local businesses. She is planning on joining the Peace Corps when she graduates in 2007 and write about her experiences so more people in America will know the conditions of countries that we rarely hear about. She loves writing, painting, playing the piano, going out with friends to sports bars, and works fulltime at a resort.

Celebrities - Most Popular Radio Announcers

By Michael Russell

Remember the days when you used to be able to turn on the radio and not have to worry about what was going to come out of the announcer's mouth? Those days are long gone. Today, with celebrities link Howard Stern, nobody is safe from the trash talk dancing through the air waves. But there was a time when radio was really a class act and the announcers were as popular as the music they played.

There was probably no greater DJ team than the group put together by WABC Radio in New York. The station ultimately lost out to the AM-FM wars of the 1980s, but during its prime, WABC was the most popular radio station in the country and the jocks were household names that eventually went on to other things when the station changed over to talk radio.

The morning started with Harry Harrison. Coffee and music was his trademark. Harry had a pleasant voice and was very easy to listen to. He wasn't the most interesting of the WABC jocks but he always made you feel at home. Harrison could be heard from 6 to 10 every morning for over 15 years. His spot in the lineup was the springboard for what was to follow.

From 10 AM to 2 PM was Ron Lundy. Lundy was the fat jolly fellow who always started his broadcast day with a "good morning love" to his audience. Lundy had a more bubbly personality and voice than Harrison, but was still rather reserved in comparison to the man who would follow him at 2 PM.

At 2 PM everyday nobody knew what to expect. The man behind the mic was as unpredictable as the weather. His name was Dan Ingram, who also did many voice-overs for TV commercials and many of the WABC commercials as well. Ingram was without a doubt the most colorful DJ that WABC ever had. He was as outrageous as you could get without having to resort to off color humor. One afternoon he would preface each record he played with the intro to a James Brown song, "Make It Funky" where the song starts out with Brown asking his friend, "Bobby, what you wanna play now?" The answer was, "Whatever we play, we got to make it funky". And then they would count off and just at the end of the count off Ingram would put on whatever song he decided to play. Dan Ingram was so far ahead of his time. And he was the perfect lead in for the man who counted down the top 20 every Tuesday.

Bruce Morrow was called Cousin Brucie. He WAS the voice of WABC radio and his shows, which ran for almost 20 years were the highlight of the WABC broadcast day. He had the largest listening audience of any show in the New York area. The advertising spent during his 4 hours from 6 PM to 10 PM was astronomical for the time. Bruce Morrow was the dessert after a main course that was the best that radio had to offer.

Today, WABC is just a memory. But if you look it up on the Internet, you will see many sites dedicated to this once great radio station and the great DJs who graced their air waves.
