Paula Abdul to Play Super Bowl; MC Scat Cat's Comeback Long Overdue

For those who believed Paula Abdul's only talent was kicking back tumblers of rum and Coke on American Idol, the one-time pop star is dusting off her dancing shoes and growing out her eyebrows for a comeback at this year's Super Bowl half-time show.

Abdul hasn't released an album since 1995, nor has she generated much pop-chart heat since '91's "Rush, Rush." TV Guide reports she's recording a new duet -- and will be trading previous collaborator "MC Scat Cat" for a dawg. Fellow Idol judge, Randy Jackson, is working with Abdul on a song for his new celebrity duet record, Music Club Vol. 1. Rumour is the two are already rehearsing for the video, and that the choreography for her Super Bowl show will be lifted from the clip - which may or may not feature Jackson as an animated dog wearing sunglasses. No word, though, whether Jackson will be joining Abdul on the astroturf Feb. 3.

If not, maybe Abdul can extend some of that coddling spirit she shows on Idol and round up some of the show's past winners who have since fallen into the sort of obscurity the former Laker girl was wallowing in prior to her resurrection as Idol's most incoherent judge. Earlier this week, Season 5 runner-up, Katharine McPhee got the boot from her label, joining Season 5 winner, Taylor Hicks (reported Jan. 3 to be dropped from J Records) and Season 2 winner, Ruben Studdard as "indie" Idols (read: washed up).
