Brit's latest paparazzi scandal

BRITNEY Spears spent the night in a hotel with a photographer on Saturday.

The Gimme More singer experienced another meltdown which culminated in her inviting a paparazzo known only as Adnan, who works for the Finalpixx photo agency, to share a room with her at Beverly Hills' Peninsula Hotel.

A source is quoted as saying: "Adnan and Britney met in Malibu about 10.30pm. She got into his car and chatted to him for a while. Then she went home and got changed into her pink wig and a leopard print mini-dress.

"She met up with Adnan at the Peninsula and they checked into a room together. He came out at 4am to buy cigarettes. When someone asked what was happening between him and Britney, he said, 'It's hard to make babies when you're just having lunch.' "

According to reports, Britney left the hotel room at 9am with Adnan and he is believed to have followed Britney to her Mulholland Drive home, and was still there yesterday afternoon when the 26-year-old singer's sons - Sean Preston, two, and 15-month-old Jayden James - were due to arrive for a supervised visit.

Britney's night with the snapper followed a bizarre series of events as the pop star - who this year has shaved her head, attacked a paparazzo's car with an umbrella and checked into rehab - appeared to go off the rails yet again.

The meltdown began on Friday night. Following a late night shopping trip to Target where witnesses claim Britney appeared to be randomly throwing items into her trolley, she visited West Hollywood Japanese restaurant Miyagi's at 1.15am, where she demanded take-out food,
despite being told the kitchen was closed.

After spending Saturday at home, Britney left her Malibu gated community at 7pm and drove to a nearby gas station.

She was overheard on her cell phone in the restroom having a heated argument with her assistant Sam Lufti.

Witnesses claim the singer then phoned a recording studio to book a session for that night. When she was told they were fully booked, she allegedly shouted: 'I need a f**ing studio now. Don't tell me you don't know who I am. F**k you. I need it now, not tomorrow!'

Britney then drove to a convenience store where she invited a photographer named Phillipe to join her in her MINI Cooper car. After talking to Phillipe for some time she asked him to call Adnan - who was at his aunt's home in Santa Barbara - and tell him to come and meet her in Malibu.

Britney previously met Adnan in September, when she admitted he was "cute". The photographer came to the star's rescue when she asked a crowd of paparazzi following her to get her a tampon, while using the bathroom at a Los Angeles Quiznos sandwich store.

Britney's year of living dangerously

So, what did you find under the Christmas tree this morning? It's bound to better than what the Spears' boys discovered in their stocking, according to NW.
britney-dangerous.jpg

Despite her immense wealth, mum Britney has taken a miserly turn, buying her two young sons "cheap" presents from a store where the proletariat shop.

Stingy Brit is pictured in the store with a shopping trolley full of el cheapo toys for her toddlers Sean and Jayden, that were picked out by her assistant. The magazine is furious at Britney, who, admittedly, is generally not known for her capacity for frugality.

"Britney spends more than $120,000 on herself per month," the mag chastises, "but opts for bargain basement toy for her boys."

It's been a tough year for the Spears clan, topped off by last week's revelation that Britney's 16-year-old sister, kids TV star, Jamie Lynn, is pregnant. You've got to feel sorry for momma Spears, Lynn, who deserves at least six helpings of brandy soaked Christmas pudding tonight for putting up with those wayward girls of hers.

The mags, on the other hand, are no doubt delighted with the news and are secretly both excited and relieved to have another Spears woman to obsess over. Britney too, must be jumping with uncharacteristic joy, hoping that she might make the covers of every tabloid magazine on earth only every second week now.

Move over Brits: Prepare for the Jamie Lynn show.

"Now it's Britney's little sister's turn to shock her family - and her fans," Who announces with enthusiasm. "Brit's no longer the black sheep of the Spears family," tells NW excitedly, while Woman's Day worries that the "underage sex scandal threatens to destroy the Spears family." Famous takes a slightly different angle, telling of "Britney and Jamie Lynn's pregnancy pact," but for true Spears family fans OK! is a must for actually breaking the story in its exclusive interview with Jamie Lynn, which it smugly spreads across four pages.

2008 belongs to Jamie Lynn, that's for sure, but it's going to be difficult to let go of Brits and her compelling roller-coaster. WHO is tearily reminiscing already, offering a month-by-month photo album style round-up of the year's best Britney moments entitled "Britney's Year of Living Dangerously." There's Britney in February having her head shaved and again in July wading through the waters of Malibu in her undies. There she is wobbling all over the stage at the MTV Awards in September and driving recklessly through LA with the poor screaming kids in the back of the car. Ah....we've been through a lot this year, Britney. We're starting to miss you already. Will someone pass the tissues, please.

Did K-Fed Know About Jamie Before Brit?

This'll make Britney real happy, y'all -- it turns out her mama Lynne may have told the K-Daddy about lil' Jamie Lynn's pregnancy before she told Brit-Brit! PopoD'oh!

Us reports that Lynne "mentioned" the pregnancy to Federleezy to "warn him that the media would be going crazy." But, says an Us source, Lynne "asked him as a favor not to say anything to anyone" -- until, of course, the OK! magazine piece ran.

This does not surprise any Spears family observers. "Lynne talks to him way more than she talks to Britney," says a source. Wonder if K-Fed will be dispensing any advice to young Casey Aldridge?

'Water Horse' succeeds as quality family film

MOVIE REVIEW: 'Water Horse' succeeds in being a quality family film

By CHRISTY LEMIRE The Associated Press

The fantasy family film The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep was directed by Jay Russell, who previously directed My Dog Skip. And the script was based on the book by Dick King-Smith, who also wrote Babe: The Gallant Pig.

In other words, bring tissues – that means you, moms and dads.

This extremely sweet tale of a lonely boy named Angus MacMorrow (Alex Etel) who finds an egg on the shore and befriends its contents once it hatches – a slimy, mischievous but irresistibly cute creature that can only be described as a baby water horse – will tug at anyone. In an era when pop-culture onslaughts are more fashionable, family movies of this quality are hard to find.

Sure, it borrows more than a little from E.T.

The facially expressive animal, whom Angus names Crusoe although it's both male and female, makes squeaky and scratchy noises as it wobbles about causing trouble at the Scottish mansion the family runs during World War II. (The seamless special effects come from New Zealand's Weta Digital and Weta Workshop, which also were responsible for the Lord of the Rings trilogy.)

Angus has a sister, Kirstie (Priyanka Xi), whom he swears to secrecy, and a father who's off fighting in the war. His mother, Anne (Emily Watson), is the caretaker of the estate and is too distracted to realize what's going on. It's obvious to everyone but Angus that dad isn't coming back anytime soon. He's still too vivid in the boy's mind; as depicted in tender flashback scenes featuring Craig Hall, dad leaves his workshop to Angus and tells him he's the man of the house now. Being a serious boy, Angus takes these responsibilities seriously.

Crusoe allows him to have fun again and gives him someone to care for and connect with, which he desperately needs. But as the creature eats and grows, it gets too big to splash about giddily in the bathtub and must be moved to the more spacious loch nearby, with the help of the family's handyman (Ben Chaplin). Then the challenge is keeping it hidden from the British soldiers who have taken over the estate and used it as their base in hopes of blasting German submarines out of the water.

(This is meant as a fuzzy but amusing way of explaining the legend of the Loch Ness monster, with Brian Cox warmly providing modern-day narration to the events told in retrospect.)

Crusoe has one enemy, though – a bulldog named Churchill who belongs to the Army's cook, and who has an uncanny ability to sniff it out and chase it around the house. In a cute sight gag, Crusoe, as a baby, can't tell the difference between Churchill and a plush toy that looks just like him. But Mr. Russell thankfully keeps the cute factor to a minimum; The Water Horse is never cloying or condescending, making it palatable for adults.

That holds especially true for the performances. The 13-year-old Mr. Etel, who starred in the 2004 Danny Boyle comedy Millions, carries every scene with poise and never comes off as precocious. Ms. Watson brings some vulnerability as his harried mom, and Mr. Chaplin gets a surprising chance to show off his range from comedy to drama to action.

Some scenes may be a bit too scary for the littlest moviegoers. As the creature reaches full height and comes to resemble a leviathan, the Army catches sight of it and perceives it as an enemy, firing at it in the water again and again. Making these moments even more potentially frightening, they take place during a thunderstorm at night.

In theory, though, kids will walk away feeling more moved by the lovely tale of loyalty and unexpected friendship they've just seen. It's pretty hard not to be.The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep

BStarring Alex Etel, Emily Watson, Ben Chaplin and Priyanka Xi. Directed by Jay Russell. PG (action/peril, mild language and brief smoking). 111 mins. In wide release.

Lindsay Lohan’s Latest Leanings

Lindsay Lohan was spotted recently attending a party at the Los Angeles home of “Power Lesbian” Jeanette Longoria with one Courtenay Semel. Courtenay is daughter of Yahoo! CEO Terry Semel and Lindsay’s current roommate reports the New York Post.

Not long out of rehab, it’s said that Lindsay arrived late at the party with Courtenay and stuck close to her friend - so close that they held hands all evening. Page Six reports that Lohan has made out with other girls in her pre rehab days, namely Samantha Ronson a deejay. Her apparent closeness with Courtenay has sparked musings on her the pair’s actual relationship. It seems likely that Lohan’s decision to appear at such a public event with another female in tow means the star is likely making a romantic statement.

Confusion sets in when one realizes Lindsay has also been recently spotted spending a great deal of time with Spencer Guilburt a graphic artist. According to the Daily Mail, the two have been spotted kissing at L.A. restaurant Il Sole. Do kisses trump hand holding in the game of celebromance?

Perhaps the most telling information on Lohan’s romantic leanings can be taken from the New York Post’s source,

Lindsay seemed really nervous,” said the source. “It was the first time she’s seen a lot of people from her past life and she seemed socially awkward - like she was sticking by Courtenay for support.”

So - seeing a few friends from her harder partying days made the recovering starlet a bit nervous? Even nervous enough to hold onto a friend for support? Who’d have thunk it.
